Gifted And Talented Education Program
| From the RUSD website: How are GATE students identified? |
| Each school site office provides a Screening and Referral form for teachers to identify students believed to possess GATE identification attributes. Parents may also nominate their children by using the same Screening and Referral form. Teachers (and/or parents) submit the form to the GATE Coordinator who compiles a master list of students at each school site, grades 3-8, who demonstrate high achievement on the SAT 9 test, including reading, math, and language. Students who do not meet the criteria through SAT 9 testing or who have not taken the SAT 9 test, may elect to take a group test which is given several times a year by the GATE Coordinator. Following parent permission, group testing is arranged by the GATE Coordinator. Students to be tested are grouped according to grade span and given a mental abilities test which is scored according to published norms. Students who do not meet the criteria through either SAT 9 or mental abilities test, may request GATE admission by establishing a portfolio, which will be evaluated by the GATE selection committee. Once a student is admitted into the GATE program, whether in Rescue or in any other district either in California or the nation, he/she requires no further testing to remain eligible for participation in GATE. |
